Uniting South and West Maui
Tamara Goebbert, descendant of Samoan immigrants, was raised in Kihei, is passionate about Maui and the Hawaiian Islands, and has always wanted to make a significant difference in her community. She earned bachelor's degrees in Political Science and Journalism from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa.
Following graduation, she worked as a legislative aide for Representative David Tarnas, the Chair of the Water and Land Committee, during the most recent legislative session, and she interned for Senator Dela Cruz, the Chair of the Ways and Means Committee, in 2020, where she was able to participate directly in the legislative process.
She’s running to represent the people of South and West Maui as Senator because she believe’s she can effectively advocate for all generations on Maui and in Hawaii. While pursuing her higher education, she had invaluable experiences as an intern and later as a legislative aide. She came to understand the current state of government and observed certain negative trends. Tamara is committed to speaking with subject-matter experts, doing research, and—most importantly—listening to the needs of the community in order to find solutions to our most complex challenges.
